What's The Story
On October 27, 1904, New York’s first underground rapid transit system opened to the public to much fanfare and anticipation. The initial route, operated by the newly formed Interborough Rapid Transit Company, traveled 9.1 miles through 28 stations. Both a feat of engineering prowess and innovative design, the subway had an undeniable impact on the city’s trajectory. |
