2013 Walking New York - MTA Arts & Design Art Card
This art card was created by James Gulliver Hancock in 2013.
“When I’m in New York, especially Manhattan, I often get a feeling that everything is out of scale. There are micro details and massive structures all side by side,” said Hancock. “During the day, different things take on different significance and expand and contract in scale -- a take-away coffee might become super important, then a certain building might stand out. This is what makes New York buzz for me. The fact that there are so many different things all side by side -- it’s so fun to explore those juxtapositions.” James Gulliver HancockMeasures 9 1/2 x 44 inches
Please note: This original art card was on display in a NYC subway car, therefore some surface and edge wear will be present. This is your chance to own a piece of subway history!

What's The Story
Modeled after the Poster Program, the Art Card Program was initiated in 1999 by MTA Arts & Design. The Program provides opportunities for illustrators, print, and other visual artists to create evocative artwork for display within newer subway cars. Subway riders have the opportunity to enjoy colorful imagery as a source of thought and inspiration while traveling through the system. |
