"Knickerbocker Ave" by Ryan Peltier, 2016

After decamping to Minnesota, Ryan Peltier returned to visit his former stomping grounds around Bushwick, Brooklyn. His figures are frenzied and fantastical, representing the sorts of friends and neighbors he saw and remembered from his time in the city. Peltier’s drawing is inspired by the Knickerbocker Avenue stop, where he watched pigeons flying high above and all the characters who make up the borough of Brooklyn. www.rpeli.com

An artist, illustrator and teacher, Ryan Peltier enjoys things with a shadowy edge.  He is inspired by the various work from 1960s designers to old New Yorker Illustrations to strange, dark world that Edward Gorey’s strange conjured.

What's The Story

Modeled after the Poster Program, the Art Card Program was initiated in 1999 by MTA Arts & Design. The Program provides opportunities for illustrators, print, and other visual artists to create evocative artwork for display within newer subway cars. Subway riders have the opportunity to enjoy colorful imagery as a source of thought and inspiration while traveling through the system.
